As the name suggests, chana masala is used to prepare chole recipes. All the spices are dry roasted on a low flame until they change colour and give nice aroma. Then, allowed to cool and powdered in a blender.

Ingredients
- Poppy seeds 1 tsp
- Black pepper 8 -10
- Aniseed 1 tsp
- Black cardamom 1
- Bay leaves 2
- Cloves 2
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg 1
- Cumin seeds 1 tsp
- Mangosteen
Directions
- Dry roast all the whole spices (except mangosteen) and pound them to a powder. Add mangosteen and mix well.
